Welcome

Maesteg Celtic RFC was formed in 1925. The ground was opened by Vernon Hartshorn, MP and Paymaster General, after the land was donated by the local colliery owners. The inaugural match was played against a Welsh Select Team.

The club went from strength to strength playing all through the second world war and built up a great reputation, indeed it was recognised as one of the strongest ( second class sides in Wales). In 1949 they beat the Invincible Maesteg Team in a friendly during that season. The year 1958 saw them win the Silver Ball Trophy and in 1984 they won the Wrexham Lager Trophy.

The club has helped produce and develop many great players over the years, with Gwyn Evans and Alan Bateman , Wales and British Lions to the fore.

Celtic players have produced between them, 47 full Welsh Caps, Schoolboy, 39, Youth, plus 1 English Colt, 8 A caps and 8 Welsh Deaf caps.

The club celebrated their 75 anniversary recently with the launch of a book entitled ìA Magnificent Tryî, and the club looks forward with confidence to another 75 years.

The club currently run 2 senior, 1 Youth and 2 Junior Teams and has secured funding to further develop the training facilities, which will be the envy of many.
